She raised children, and grandchildren. She lived into her 90s. She got to hold her great-grandchildren. She saw the internet. She was the last living member of her tribe who spoke the language as her first. They tried to make her something she was not. She outlived them all.

They called her an instigator - inciting the other girls to such behavior! And she survived - where so many in such schools did not. She did not waste it either. She lived; hard, but well. She had a full head of raven-black hair into her 60s.

But she was rebellious. Thankfully the "school" was forced to digitize/publish its records - and I can read the reports "staff" wrote about her sneaking into boys' dorms, speaking her mother-tongue defiantly, taking her punishments and fooling them into thinking she'd learned her "lesson."

Kept in ragged "dormitories", "disciplined" for any violation of norms she was not born into or understood, and abused by strangers who believed themselves righteous - and that they did it for her own good.

On this day, I remember my great grandmother:

Taken from her tribe in 1900 as a child and sent to a "boarding school" where her hair was shorn, she was forced to convert to Christianity, and forbidden from speaking her own language.

Yes, people should try to be accommodating & understanding of your communication styles/issues, challenges in making/keeping connections, mood changes, etc etc etc.

But nobody has to - and often... they're dealing with their own problems too.

It isn't just that sometimes people use their mental health issues or neurodivergence as an 'excuse' for some kind of bad or uncomfortable behavior - often they forget other people have mental illness too.

You aren't special because of it.

Went to bed at 2 am after streaming.

Ate 5 chocolate chip cookies, drank half a Celcius, and took my Ritalin for breakfast.

I agree, I like having something physical if I can. Not even my work laptop has a CD drive, but that's because they have very strict rules on media storage and transfer

I wanted to download my MRI images from my recent brain scans, but the ZIP file was corrupted and I only got a couple. I messaged my provider to send them to me and I just got a burned CD in the mail.

Who still has CD drives?!?
