This was after thousands of white people violently rioted. They were initially denied enrollment but a federal judge ordered their admission

At 16, Yvette Stevens joined the Black Panther Party. She was responsible selling the Black Panther newspaper & helping start the free breakfast program for children.

Guion “Guy” Bluford was the first Black American in space as a mission specialist aboard the space shuttle ''Challenger'' in 1983. Of 10,000 applicants to the NASA space program, Guion S. Bluford was one of 35 chosen to join the new space shuttle team in January 1978.
