Sorry, that went a little tangential, but I feel it plays into it. Some people don't understand that the entire point is that we, the player get to decide what Solas is or isn't because the game gives us that freedom. Its not contradictory, its your choice, literally.

One of those weird things people forget is the result is based on our choices and what he says depends entirely on what we, the player, have chosen.

Does he give into pride and declare himself a God? Does he admit defeat? Does he seek atonement?

That's the beauty of a game full of real choices.
