In my experience there are lots of ‘full time’ museum jobs that are 4-5 hours below FT, so even when they pay minimum or real living wages, it works out not that much anyway because its not true ‘full time’

Very happy to finally see this in the flesh today: the remains of an early tenth-century calendar from Landévennec, Brittany, whose entry for the year 913 contains an annotation that the local coastal monastery of Winwaloe was attacked by vikings during that year.

Copenhagen, KB Thott 239 2°, f.10r
A medieval manuscript page from the tenth century, on vellum. Text in black ink and red rubrication using Carolingian miniscule. A marginal annotation on a manuscript, containing the (abbreviated) Latin sentence: 'Eodem anno destructum est monasterium sancti winualoei a normannis' (translation: 'In the same year, the monastery of saint Winwaloe was destroyed by Northmen').

Photo of a Kansas City Chiefs press conference with Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes. Reid is wearing a gray suit and red tie with a lapel pin. Kelce is wearing a camp-style short-sleeved shirt with a bird print, along with a suede cap, and Mahomes is wearing a white collared shirt, a pink checkered double-breasted vest, and a pale pink tie.

Teaching Y8 about the reactions & long-term effects of the Industrial Revolution soon

To contextualise this, we’ll be starting the lesson with a discussion about the allegedly inevitable ‘AI revolution’; are they for or against it? what impacts will it have? Good and/or bad?

We’re nearly a month out from release.. the marketing and press machines (so I’m told) are about to start their engines!

Thank you very much! They're quite gentle really... now that we're 1200 years removed from the worst of it!

This is a massive discovery; Oxford in the Roman Period wasn’t really a thing, so this is a really early sign of local if not regional importance

Would love to read more about this

I haven’t had as much time to read lately, as I’ve stepped into a full-time teaching post

Still, Javier Martínez Jimènez (et al)’s The Iberian Peninsula Between 300 & 850 (2018) has been a great companion these last 3-4 weeks; a detailed yet sweeping overview of post-Roman / Umayyad Spain

It’s not even a money-saving thing, either: if you’ve got the funds to fly to Japan, you can afford more than a McSquid Burger (and most of the time, McDonalds costs more than better food anyway)

Thank you to @rorywaterman.bsky.social, Anna Milon, and the AHRC for letting me be a part of this project

Plus, Early Medieval Frisia as a topic is studied nowhere near as much as Scandinavia/England
