An insightful read. I hadn’t appreciated the links between feudalism and privatization. The author’s evocation of how future historians may look back on our era in that respect felt important, and a fruitful way to think, to me. I’m hopeful the pendulum will swing back towards effective government.

Don Fawcett’s big red book The Cell is available for free online!!

There are a bajillion cryo-ET projects in there, recommend a physical copy if you can find one - it’s my favourite coffee table book

don’t have an answer for you but if you’re looking at cell tomograms often I can’t recommend Don Fawcett’s big red book The Cell highly enough - it’s a *beautiful* atlas of classic EM images

Working on #WarpTools I have the old problem of removing "bad tilts". These are views that I skipped in #etomo to get a better model...

I wrote a python code to turn the UseTilt to False in the XML files for those views and improve the tomo reconstruction.

I think for me the most compelling answer for "why fund basic research?" (and the one most relevant to the people doing the work) is that humans are curious and finding stuff out makes us happy and fulfilled. Science is a thing humans like. Life would be more dull and sad if we didn't do it.
