First post on Bluesky. Scot in Oz, bit of a modernist, currently working on 3rd album. Beatles, Weller, Hawley, Teenage Fanclub etc. Here’s a video from a previous single Somewhere Under the Rainbow if you fancy a taster. First 2 Albums in most of the usual places. youtu.be/VcJcXeTVtws?...

I’ve got many reservations about ChatGPT but asked for a mixing tip for my next single and told it I was using Pro Tools, Abbey Road plug-ins and a few others. The advice was novel and astounding - about 80% there. Song going for a John Lennon/Richard Hawley vibe.

RIP Brian Wilson. The word ‘genius’ is often overused but not in the case of Brian. He could hear melodies and progressions that no-one else could. Pet Sounds esp is a masterpiece and God Only Knows is probably the greatest song ever IMO www.theguardian.com/music/2025/j...

For me it’s probably Abbey Road or Let it Be but hey - there’s an embarrassment of riches that other bands can barely dream of. Revolver and Rubber Soul are wonderful. And I can listen to Beatles for Sale, Hard Day’s Night and Help any day of the week.

When people ask me what my fav Beatles LP is my answer is never Pepper. It's this album. The real beginning of the sonic explorations in the studio w/ George Martin, doing a remarkable job here. And it features, quite possibly, my all-time fav Fab Four track, the groundbreaking Tomorrow Never Knows.

Hard to choose but Julian Cope’s memoir Head On is wonderful. Captures his day-to-day experience of how punk shook everything up.

Oh no. Clem was one of my favourite drummers. Always put the song ahead of flashness. His Spectoresque vibe was the icing on the cake.

RIP Brian James - a raw and energetic force in the Damned. Age is starting to hit the punk generation now 😬

RIP Brian James, the original guitarist with The Damned and the writer of their finest songs. More terrible news - another pioneer gone. Thinking of his family and friends

RIP Bill Fay. He was such an enigmatic character with magisterial songs that seeped into your soul.

What a shocker. Rick Butler was a powerhouse of a drummer and his energy and style influenced many a drummer and many a band. Gone too soon.

A couple of 12s from The Jam in memory of a man who could smash the fuck out of the drums. RIP to Rick Butler.

Watched ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ at the weekend. Powerful stuff about this beast of a band - all about the music and the coming together of the four individual personalities rather than the usual drugs and groupies stories. Surprisingly a lot of rare footage. Recommended!

Saw A Complete Unknown at the weekend. Timothee Chalamet a revelation as Dylan - awkward, mercurial, enigmatic genius. A reminder of the power of music as a galvanising force for change. Recreation of the recording of Like a Rolling Stone put a huge smile my face.
