Hello Bluesky!

I love #writing bizarre, mindbending, stylistically rich speculative fiction.

Think: Gormenghast, Piranesi, Neuromancer, The First Law, Between Two Fires.

Into novel writing? Aiming for #tradpub? I'd love to chat.
When I tried the morning pages exercise, it eventually led me to the novel I'm working on. It's freaky how well it works.
Close to hitting 30K words on the (2nd) draft. This is the closest I've got to having a novel-length draft I'd want to show people. I feel giddy - my muscles literally feel looser as I write. #writesky #writing

'Mara Lissa's sisterhood of evil trans hackers' sounds like a cyberpunk reboot of the Bene Gesserit in the best way tbh

Same, to the point it's been a bit of a shock to discover how much others *do* shop.

The thing that gets me about Cosy D&D is that Terry Pratchett already did it! He very famously based his entire career on an expansion of the parameters of D&D land! And his stuff is cosier because he actually acknowledges the messed up stuff about it.
You're so close!! Rooting for you to make it.
Congrats!!

I read one of those stories in draft form a few years ago and loved it. (DM if you want to know who I am/where I read it.) I'm so glad to see it's making it out into the world.
So happy to hear that you're publishing a second novel! I really enjoyed The Book Eaters, and can't wait to get my hands on this one 😄
And in a STEMlord world, that's something we have less and less room for.
But you can't make horror medicinal. The only reason to engage with it is its aesthetic, mind-expanding value.
Comforting fiction helps people relax. Aspirational fiction gives people aspirations.
And it made me realise that the problem people have with feel-bad fiction is that you can't justify it under a practical paradigm.
Read a great thread about the demand for horror to be cosy from @magencubed.bsky.social
If people demand that intellectual activity is only practical, they're demanding that all imagination can only be practical.

I mean, it's pretty persuasive.
