It really sucks that snob gatekeepers framed classical as high brow music so now any time you talk about it, people assume you're trying to signal intellect

But the music itself isn't pretentious, thats cultural baggage. I just like it when sounds are arranged in a cool way, like any other genre

YES!! I like the fullness of sound. The complicated composing. The many emotions it can evoke. The stories it tells. I like being able to identify the different instruments.... Can I speak intelligently on composers and their works? Hell, no.

When I was running career services for UMASS Amherst, marketing and business employers frequently told me, "I'll hire a lib arts student over a Bus major any day. I can train a Lib Arts kid to do the job. They know how to think, they can write. I can't teach a Bus major how to think or write."

My mom forced me to take typing. "It's a skill you will need to get a job." (When female choices were tchr, nurse, secy) I rebelled! Didn't learn a thing. Years later, come computers, I had to teach myself to type. LOL!
