Always curious. On a narrowboat, hoping for a passivhaus one day. Landscape history, nature and biodiversity. Partially-sighted. Please use descriptive alt-text to help screen-readers and include all. DMs not available.

New Bearly Newsworthy is out!

From Plaid Cymru’s historic win and the White House’s sneering to Nadine Dorries proving gravity affects both IQ and policy - it’s all here.

Oh, and @monkemma.bsky.social dismantles another nonsense headline from The Express. Beautifully.

If you are missing the sound of the sea....

Episode 244 - Rocky West Somerset beach (31 mins)

An empty beach. An empty landscape. Under perfect October blue skies.

Part of the chapel in the great tower of Warkworth Castle, Northumberland. A piscina and sedilia watched over by an angel corbel.

On 35th October 2022 I finished this drawing of the view from the pulpit of Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate, York. Many of the box pews are made of recycled panelling.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
😱😂 I remember the photos at the time 🫣
Aside: long ago, I was involved in a biodiversity management plan for the Roding valley, I doubt any of it was actioned from what you and @paulpowlesland.bsky.social have shown.
Indeed. I was horrified at the time and wondering how that slipped in the plan but now the rationale that the builders weren’t accommodating the roof pitch going makes sense, key point.
Great job. Worth all that sweating and slipping and falling in a heavy backpack 🫡
I enjoyed that, thanks to you both. I followed Es’s mammoth Twitter thread at the time and was fascinated. Good to revisit his experience.

The Great Tower of Warkworth Castle, Northumberland. The great tower stands on top of the motte, was commissioned by Henry Percy after he was made 1st Earl of Northumberland in 1377. It is in the shape of a Greek cross, with four polygonal wings radiating from a central block.

youtu.be/KcFzEzvsJCM As I take a gentle cruise in this week's vlog, I am reminded about the incredible, unique waterway system we have and I discover stories and lives along the canal that have shaped it all. I also meet an old friend! Take care 🦋🌻

It’s October 24th and my rose bush apparently had a fit. Clusters of roses all at once! ✨

When October is odd with roses blooming and no water in the taps..so you draw comfort mice. ✍️🐭✨
Interesting, I’d no idea how this is done.
What a stunning shop front

It’s a crisp and breezy autumn morning here in Edinburgh, but earlier in the week it was looking very different.

A little controversy for a Friday morning, which is the best English county to live in? I've lived in Lancshire, West Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Greater Manchester & East Yorkshire & spent a fair amount of time in every county. My answer is North Yorkshire, yours?
North Yorkshire too but I admit a bias 😉. Herefordshire-Worcs close second except for no coast. Living in Essex, London, Northants and Leics meant lots of journeys ‘getting away’…
