Sorry folks, I had to delete the original post - it was pretty ropey, grammar wise.
Late again with my #HistBookChat offering. The last two chapters in which the old soldiers reflected on their experiences left me especially moved in a way I haven't felt for a while. Not every soldier was scarred by their experiences but all were marked by it in some way.
D'oh! Please forgive the two 'me's in the post above. You'd never guess I read and re-read it before pressing the send button. 'Tis about time Bluesky had an edit option for the terminally cack-handed.
I enjoyed this book too.
What's this book like, please?
I can't argue with you Kristen but I will say this: If governments continue to deploy & redeploy a comparatively small number of troops from shrunken militaries then the point their judgement is blurred by what they've seen and experienced is brought forward accordingly. We ask too much of too few.
I'm afraid I didn't rate it but then again, that's just my opinion - I'd be interested in what you think about it once you've read it.
Absolutely.
Everytime they speak against Antifa reporters need to say “let’s be clear, you’re pro facism, right?”
At last, some backbone.
Yes I am, I'd like that.
Thank you mate. I've got a couple of other ideas to follow on from CC&C, the front runner would focus on Falaise and The Great Swan, but I just don't have the £ and time.
Unlikely I'm afraid, but thank you.
I know the feeling, this one was supposed to be the first of a trilogy but things got in the way. Perhaps one day....
Unsolicited testimonials are always welcome....!
It's true... sorry Mark but it is on my 'to buy list'.
My 'Ready Use' shelf shelfie - there are others, lots of others scattered about the house.

One of my favourite single volume histories of the 1914-1918 war at sea #HistBookChat
Get going then. How about today?
If Howl's Moving Castle could float it would be more seaworthy than the others.
I'd say (concept wise) the K & M Class Royal Navy submarines are strong challengers for that title.
Three offerings for this week's #HistBookChat - The Hastings book is probably the last one he's done of late worth the reading (although a friend says his work on Operation Pedestal is good). November 1942 I'd categorise as a good book if bought second hand but the very best of the 3 is HMAS Sydney.
Roy is critical of Navarre, very much pro Cogny. For what it's worth, I think if the Tai troops had been replaced with more reliable units, there would have been an outside chance of the VM, already crumbling by late May, would have been defeated. What would have happened next is anyone's guess.
