Political violence is evil, killing people is evil, a country with more guns in it than people is broken, and what the government is saying about political violence right now being a primarily leftwing phenomenon is factually, statistically untrue. They are using this moment to rewrite history.

“In June of 2024, the Washington Post reported the WNBA’s losses had grown to $50 million! Yes, while Bloomberg had reported in 2023 that revenues had doubled from 2019 to 2023, the WNBA/NBA insisted that losses had grown five times!”

I have been talking about pay in the WNBA for nearly ten years.

It feels like this time, the story has changed.

I did three interviews today (two TV interviews, one video podcast) and it seems like so many people now understand how much the WNBA players are NOT being paid what they are owed!

They went from “we listen to science & data” to “we talked with federal officials.”

FYI, this doesn’t just affect trans women.

“The policy says that nonbinary athletes, transgender men and intersex athletes will also be limited to competing in the men’s category.”

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

American friends, do know many Canadian universities will still accept applications for fall entry? I'm Dean of an excellent College of Arts at a beautiful university in a small very safe city. And we're not far from the US border.

The Senegalese women’s national basketball team had to cancel training camp in the US after 11+ members of their team, including five players, were denied visas.

Meanwhile, the US intends to host the World Cup and Olympics while Trump is in office.

t.co/pFrEnUWUC0
The Senegal women’s national basketball team cancelled a 10-day training camp in the U.S. from June 22 to July 3 after the U.S. rejected visas for five players, six staff members and a ministerial delegation, the Senegalese Basketball Federation announced in a statement Friday.

The rejected visas come weeks after the Trump administration announced a travel ban on 12 countries and visa restrictions on another seven. That original group did not include Senegal, but The Washington Post and other outlets reported last week that the administration was considering expanding the ban to 36 more countries, including Senegal. The expanded ban has not yet taken effect.

The University of South Carolina will impose a $472 annual mandatory fee on students to subsidize the athletic department.

This is an incredibly problematic way to cover the cost of paying athletes + will significantly undermine solidarity between students + students who are campus athletic workers
Just got clarification from South Carolina.

The $300 annual "athletics auxiliary fee" is ***in addition*** to the $172 athletics fee.

So students will now pay a total of $472 annually in mandatory athletics fees. That's over $18 million a year for USC
