Had an absolute blast listening to and adding to the super important info in @cultarchaeo.bsky.social's talk this morning! We continue to fight the good fight on the internet against pseudoarch and conspiracy nonsense 🫡

Currently at my first big ‘event’ show in…years. Like before covid and clear bag policies years. This is wild.

I should really re-learn Latin. And Middle Egyptian. And Spanish.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Just found out the theme for the Chappell Roan shows this weekend is mermaids and I have absolutely nothing to wear. Commence (glittery) crisis.

Wait, what's happening with Bluesky? Why are we jumping ship?

100%. You do what you have to do to survive.

Yep. 2023 was a slow year to start and then the strikes started that fall. It’s been bad and getting worse since then. The fires definitely didn’t help!

Even your favorite YouTube series has a full production staff. YouTube shows are made just like a 'normal' TV show. The only difference is where the final product is broadcast.

But of course it's all scripted. Everything you see on TV needs to be planned, shot and edited into a coherent 30-60min story for you to enjoy, and that requires A LOT of planning and scheduling for all the various moving parts and crew involved at every stage of production.

My specific corner of the industry also rarely gets mentioned in these types of pieces or any reporting on the entertainment industry. "Unscripted" productions like documentaries, are outside union rates & protections you find on "scripted" things like movies or big TV dramas (think HBO shows).

I definitely saw a SMU post the other week for an AP gig, and this AP was also expected to produce, shoot and edit as well as a couple other jobs. All for maybe $1500/wk.

I have been rewarded for my public outreach with a Chipotle gift card and an In-n-Out gift card. This is so cute 😭

Just finished talking to my local LEGO league! There are a couple teams that are very fascinated by/focused on doing something with caves. Would anyone be willing/able to talk to them via Zoom about archaeological work in a cave environment?

I'm not necessarily a whisk(e)y drinker, but I'll raise a glass tonight to Jane Goodall. RIP to a legend.

The fact that my birthday this year will be blessed with the release of 'Frankenstein' is bringing me immense joy.

Also interesting that they were familiar with the Colosseum but not Cleopatra.

I’ve now introduced The Children to the concepts of grant proposals and funding, as well as the importance of access to showers when doing archaeology. Did I do this right? 🤣
