It's so ironic when people are afraid to give negative product feedback because they fear hurting the relationship, but the opposite is the most true! I want the negative feedback. Give me all the gory details! I'm more offended if you withhold it from me.
The real differentiator is the intentionality you take with the 10-30 people in your network to support their goals. This intentionality will transform your career trajectory by giving you more traction at work and more reach in your network.
When people think of "networking" they think they need to meet MORE people. When people think of career advancement, they think they need to grow their technical skills.
Agency is the fuel that keeps our careers moving. But how do you get it? Do you network more? Grow your skills?
I really don’t like this. I don’t like how little agency so many of us have in our own careers. It’s one of the reasons we started People Work. We believe that you should be able to control your own destiny. But how?
Or perhaps you've given up trying to advance because you're just grateful to not be laid off.
In today's job market, it's easy to feel like you have no control. Maybe you stay in a job you hate because you fear there's nothing else. Maybe you’re struggling to find something at all because you don't stand out.

I love this idea of AI stress testing social media and how it’s revealing so many of its failings. I wrote this as I was stewing about all of that.
Just this week I’ve seen at least one news article about a huge data breach at a major HR software company that many of your companies likely use, and no one really bats an eye at this stuff anymore.

They also don't use the software for their professional growth because they can't trust it.
We care deeply about your growth and respect that you need privacy to enable that.

You should demand that of any software company that asks you to share vulnerable data that could affect your career.

It was fun getting to write for this newsletter for Elynndi. I got my teaching certification decades ago before SEL was widely taught, but I still remember the beginnings of it starting to take root. This was a cool full-circle moment for me.
The mission of People Work nicely aligns with an education principle called Social Emotional Learning that teaches us to know ourselves, create goals and move toward achieving them, and build relationships of mutual trust and support.
