all the compressors, EQ, slight pitch tweaks, slight timing tweaks, testing 8000 combinations.... all that nitpicky bullshit....... # W O R T H
"i sure hope those hover and footstep sfx sound as good today as i remember them sounding"

*playtests for 3 seconds*

"HOLY SHIT 😚👌🔥💯💯💯💯"
Appropriate soundtrack for sad angsty werewolf game. Apparently. Idk this fucker just lives rent free in my brain now I can't remove him

Let it be known that the last background image in Amadeus, seen only in the last interactible point-and-click scene in the game, in a very melancholy context, was drawn while listening to Chichiri's theme from Fushigi Yuugi on repeat (Ka Chou Fuu Getsu) ((certified Wise Bishie Monk banger))
Today's schedule:

- wake up at 8am
- draw for an hour
- fuck this I'm tired.
- 4 hour nap
- .....what year is it
the sound design in amadeus has gone from "serviceable" to "sometimes i almost want to mute the music to listen to it" which is crazy considering the music is, like, the actual main event of this whole thing. you all better appreciate my footsteps ok. do you promise
SHOUT OUT TO THE ME OF LIKE 4 YEARS AGO WHO TOOK A TON OF WEIRD RECORDINGS INVOLVING AN OUTDOOR PIANO AND A SPOON. THEY ARE THE BEST AUDIO SOURCES OF ALL TIME
i enjoy picking and choosing when to use Mystery Rules and when to pull out "it's magic, i don't have to explain shit"
"wait this thing shouldn't be there because this other thing happened first, do i have to change something or is there some way that could still work" [10 minutes of brainstorming on a blank document later] "oh fuck yeah. this is good shit"
ok my favorite writing thing is when you find a plothole, and you think you have to fill it, but then it turns out the plothole actually implies a cooler plot than what you had originally planned
the other sign is I never DM my old unity professor questions anymore when that used to be a weekly thing 💀
It's fun now that I am competent enough at Unity/C# that I'm able to implement new logic on top of what I already have, without like, major reworks or breaking what's there. That feels like the biggest sign I've improved as a developer. lmfao
The footsteps sidequest is proof that I can't just focus on asset replacements in the final stages of gamedev or I'll just get bored and just not do shit. It's imperative I also continue to give myself random mechanics to implement. As a treat
the good news is that since i listened to "maybe i'm a lion" from FF8 on repeat while writing my 20-page research paper at the last minute all i need to do to get into crunch mode is pull up the youtuberepeater tab that i already have bookmarked :^)
if anyone wants to know my secret to recording satisfying footstep sounds is i have this one very uncomfortable pair of boots that are uncomfortable as hell and sound FUCKING AMAZING for footstep sounds. i also taped broken plant vase shards to the bottom of them when recording
which is hilarious because in some scenes with really loud dissonant music you can barely hear them. BUT they are there, and they sound awesome.
well, amadeus was never going to have footstep sounds, but now it has 3 different subsets of footstep sounds and a mechanic that randomizes them in time with the animation and also fades it a little when he's farther away, and there are a total of [checks notes] 31 source footstep sounds used.
Really feeling the "I've been a busy boy" 9/11 Garfield comic rn
ok im ngl tho the footstep mechanic IS real nice. now that it exists. instead of the asset i was supposed to draw today fdkslgdjksf
my brain is objecting to current oppressive working conditions and has decided to go on strike. it will not draw the last remaining background of the game until demands are met.

demands in question: "please chill the fuck out a little bit"
me: im so stressed. im gonna throw up. idk if i can finish everything on my to-do list

me: [ignores my to-do list for today and spends 2 hours implementing randomized timed footstep sound effects while amadeus is walking]

[[THIS WAS NOT AN INTENDED OR PLANNED MECHANIC]]
