but much like his situation, the sky is different, yet familiar. if he was able to find hope in the past (a simple bamboo hat) and in the future (his beloved showing him the stars) then he can find hope in the present too.

of course there are differences. as xl looks closer, he notices how a few stars seem to be missing - they havent yet formed - or how a few are unfamiliar to him - they must have collapsed sometime between now and the "modern" time.

but as he looks at the stars now, he recognises them. he can spot the same constellations san lang showed him. everything else might have changed, but the stars a constant that remain for billions of years.

he fell in love with that universe, with its culture and technology, with its people, ... with san lang.

and now he has to leave it all behind, start anew, unable to talk to anybody about his experiences, not knowing if he can ever love life the same again.

there are no satellites or airplanes blinking and moving around, no impurities at all. it looks so different from what he got used to, and yet its so familiar.

at first xl felt such overwhelming grief over having lost his connection to the world hc showed him

for the first time in a century, he knows to appreciate the night sky. the stars are so bright without modern light pollution.

sure, hc took him out of the city a few times so they could stargaze better, but even that cant compare to this.

idk if this was already said somewhere but,, xl laying in a field right after he gets out of the coffin, glad to be free but also feeling empty now that he cant see hc again

he doesnt have the energy to anything more than lay on his back while his body slowly heals itself
