Text reads: “Who Voted for Housing in Asheville?” with an overlay that says “Buckets of housing edition.” A graphic shows a complex data table comparing Asheville’s “housing gap estimates” across different income ranges. The Asheville For All logo sits in the bottom corner.

People want lower home prices for their cities. So why do some of them oppose new infill housing policies?

Asheville residents are leaving the city because of high housing costs. The best way to prevent this displacement? Incentivize more infill homes.

Changes may be coming soon to the role of Asheville’s Housing Trust Fund. It’s a good time for an appreciation of the program, suggests one of our lead organizers:

4-flats are starter homes. Triple-deckers are starter homes. Duplexes and townhouses are starter homes. Condos are starter homes (yes, even “luxury” condos). Legalize them all, everywhere.

There's so much more the city could do. I live in a 4-flat. It was an affordable entry point to homeownership and we love it. But it's 130 years old. We should legalize them citywide and build more new ones!
