Begin your musical week with the haunting 'Black Hats' from Atlanta gothic americana band Del Roscoe. Dark and haunting, the song is layered with atmospheric textures provided by Tim Lee's mandolin, Steve Thomas's lap steel and Debra Tala's accordion. Moody rhythms come from Paul Abrelat on bass and Matt McKenny's drums, while Yanaëlle Cornez's electric guitar and Robert Lee's vocal swirl over it all.

Having performed over 700 shows (and counting) since forming in 2019, True Foxes, the cousin duo from Cornwall, are quickly gaining recognition in the UK and beyond. Following the release of their debut album "Howl" in March 2024, comparisons have been made to the likes of Laura Marling and Brandi Carlile. Also in 2024, the duo demonstrated their musical range with mainstage performances at the Costa Del Folk festival in Portugal, the Cornwall folk Festival, as well as full band performances at the British Country music Festival and Tunes in the Park (supporting Sophie Ellis-Bexter).

It is a bare three weeks until the release of the new album from one of our favourite Americana bands - the majestic Midlake.  A band that it is just too easy to gush over, so take that as done.  "A Bridge To Far" will be out on November 7th, but we have the latest single taken from it for you today. 

Alberta singer-songwriter starts out becalmed but eventually lifts herself out of "The Doldrums". “The Doldrums” is the debut solo release from Canadian singer-songwriter Ellen Braun. She is based in Canmore, Alberta and is also a member of indie folk duo Trundled with Joe Shea. Braun recorded the 10-song collection mostly live at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango with producer Howard Bilerman. The album features a full-band performance with Stef Schneider (percussion), Sage Reynolds (upright bass), Mike O’Brien (guitars), and Sarah Hiltz (vocals and keys) and the "Nashville" choir, comprising Hiltz, Stephanie Gagnon, Laura Newman, Babette Hayward, William Kuklis, and Joseph Shea.

Alongside the news of her biggest London headline show yet, at the Royal Albert Hall on 24th October, Teeside songwriter Amelia Coburn has released a dramatic new single. Inspired by feminist writers like Angela Carter and Clarissa Pinkola Estés, 'Something Wild' is a folk anthem for anyone who feels shackled or limited by society's expectations. 'Something Wild' drives forward on an urgent rhythm and an insistent guitar riff.

Outstanding debut from Oxford-based band destined to make a great impact. "Deviate" may be the debut album from Oxford-based indie Americana band Steady Habits, but it comes on the back of a burgeoning reputation based on festival appearances, supporting the likes of Danny George Wilson and the odd single release following the band’s 2020 EP "Hold In Your Breath".

Let's start our week with something lighthearted, something intended to bring a little humour and joy into our lives. This Monday morning, we have Griefcat to thank for lifting our spirits with their new single 'Socks', sung with their tongues firmly in their cheeks. Musically, the instrumentation, rhythm and style roll along like a Springsteen anthem, particularly in the intro.

'One of America's very best songwriters' (The New Yorker) continues to deliver, with a high-quality and varied collection of songs. When you think of really top class female singer-songwriters named Williams, the name that does not so often get mentioned is Dar; and yet, she has a very tasty backlog of very good albums, 13 in total dating back to 1990, with a varied mixture of styles, songs with a wide variety of topic (many of them more than just very good) and all sung by one of the sweetest voices around.
