When I was young I took pride in finishing every book I started, even if I didn’t like it. Now, I recognize every moment spend with a book I don’t enjoy is a wasted moment that I could have spent with a book that speaks to me. There's too many beautiful books out there that need my attention.

All of the above? Everyone has different needs. It's not wrong to want validation, or an audience, or feel included-- and honestly, some of the replies feel a bit judgmental, suggesting that if you do care about a lot followers (and who sets that bar?) then you're immature or otherwise lacking.
