Not disagreeing it’s just a more nuanced history and probably has as much to do with the acceptance of Italian immigrants.

9750 x 3 (prefunction areas, restrooms,coat rooms offices etc lbs kitchens receiving and storage…) = 29,250 sf…
And most hospitality companies would say there’s too much wasted space (including the Trump Hotel group!)

It will take at least a generation to get through it.
There is no quick fix. It will take a concerted effort. Start with structural reforms and build on them to rebuild.

And minor quibble, CB was not really a BBQ joint, more a fried chicken and biscuit and gravy kinda place. BBQ was bought at the back of the Piggly Wiggly (occasionally a Winn Dixie) from a small window with a really big guy serving it.

I don't think I ever met him as a kid but I've been told he was not a nice person.
It is a bit ironic that they serve liquor, Lebanon had (has) a strong Southern Baptist tradition. The change must be part of that "woke" thing... /s

CB didnt originally serve alcohol, Evins was an evangelical "tea totaler" follower of Evangelical preacher Carl Hatch Jr (same as Elvis supposedly). They used to play "christian music" exclusively in the restaurants. Serving beer and wine and premix drinks didnt start until 2021 during Covid.

Gas station with food and a gift shop aimed at travelers on I-40. Evins’ grandfather (I think) had a fuel distribution company.
I remember when their 2nd restaurant opened after they abandoned the fuel closer to Nashville.
