Free and fair elections should be just that, 'free' and without ‘consideration in exchange for rights’. That said, we can’t let their attempt at voter suppression to allow them a return. #nzpol #kikorangi

Methinks that because certain MPs are pocketing money and (allegedly) fudging their own system for financial gain, and they probably socialise with other wealthy people who do/have behaved the same way, they assume everyone is doing that. Projecting much. #nzpol

Tonight, at 11; Entitlement Brigade uses lame metaphor to distract everyone from demanding why we’re funding expensive, nothing-burger, gas exploration project instead of solar. #nzpol

I worry that they’ve started this too late in their term, before the next general election, and may rush it through without proper consultation. #nzpol
NCEA overhaul sparks optimism and concern
Unions are cautiously optimistic changes, but the opposition says the "complete overhaul" goes too far.

This govt lives for generating policy that does not reflect scientific reality or long term sustainability. There is so much money to be made in renewable energy development, you’d think they’d jump at it. But, I guess, the single brain cell they share for decision making is burnt out.

You know what, this deserves another round of exposure. #nzpol #kikorangi #aonz

1/2 A Treasury document was released showing that this government has created more debt in 2 years than the last government did in 6 years. It has given away so much money to landlords, tobacco companies, oil & gas corporations, and the wealthy, that there isn’t much left to run the country. #nzpol
Govt's dirty little Treasury Secret is finally out: Will this govt cut healthcare and raise the retirement age?
Why is the only option to hit the middle class and poor harder? Never do we see Govt or the Treasury suggesting that rich corporate owners pay their fair share.

This govt has created more debt in 2 years than Labour did in 6 years. It has given away so much of our money that there isn’t much left to actually run the country’s public services. Surely, giving away money before working out how much you need to run things is SOME form of legal negligence.

2/2 Share this. Because Herald wrote something on it but paywalled it. #nzpol Also, I don’t understand how this kind of wreckless behaviour isn’t an immediately no-confidence type offence. They’ve thrown away our money to corporates then blamed Labour for the current austerity.

But she won’t face any repercussions or even have the decency of providing a half arsed public apology because - and say it with me - consequences 👏are 👏only 👏for👏peasants! #nzpol

2/2 Will IRD also be using it to go after the business’ participating in million $ tax dodging?

No? Ok. Yeah, nah, I get it. Defs more money to be gained from punishing min wage, working 3-jobs-to-feed-the-fam people. /s. #nzpol

1/2 To quote the Minister, “the pace was necessary as transnational crime was also moving quickly.”

And, yet again (she says flatly), the excuse for zero consultation with the public and barely-basic-bitch-consulting with the relevant regulators was terrible. #nzpol
Government quietly pushes through new law for better tax detail sharing
Cops and other agencies would be able to access tax data more quickly under the new provisions.

If the govt can happily pay an average salary of over $100k for staff at the nonsense Ministry of Regulation, then they can afford to pay nurses a living wage. #nzpol

For more context: The ICJ, at the request of Vanuatu by way of the UN, made a decision that States have legal obligations to address climate change, including limiting warming to 1.5°C and preventing significant harm to the environment #nzpol

Interesting that Seymour suddenly wants out of this not long after the International Court of Justice determined that the 1.5°C temperature target is LEGALLY BINDING under the Paris Agreement.

Heaven forbid Governments be held legally responsible for not walking their talk. #nzpol #OneTeemGovt.

The Govt happily defunded the public health system because of ‘inflation’.
And yet, the Govt happily want to increase the threshold for reporting donations and loans to $6k because, of ‘inflation’.

“Austerity for thee but, not for me.”

Photo of nurses protesting outside the Health Minister’s office. The office windows have a sign in them that says NZNO union strike disrupts more than 13,000 surgeries and appointments.

Oh look, another minister going against official advice to make law changes that benefit industries & endanger the public, worsen peoples’ health, which will inevitably put strain on our defunded health system. I would love to see which booze lobbyists have swipe card access to her office. #nzpol

2/2 Reps of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation, the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, the Rural Health Network, and the New Zealand Royal College of General Practitioners have signed this. Now it’s the public’s turn. Easy activism here people. It takes 10 seconds. I timed it. #nzpol

It’s not just about pay equity while women work. It’s also about providing equal earnings so that when women retire, they’re not dependent on spouses or others when they’re no longer able to support themselves. Women deserve financial security - just like men have #nzpol #OneTermGovt.
b00ts72.bsky.social
We’re seeing older women impacted more by rising housing & energy costs due to historical & structural misogyny that left them with lower lifetime earnings, less superannuation, & greater housing insecurity in this cost of living crisis. This is why pay equity legislation is important. #nzpol
