Sixth time seeing the amazing Nation of Language, this time at The Showbox Market. They get better each time.

And this break in the middle of “Across That Fine Line” gets longer and more rewarding each time, too. @nationoflanguage.bsky.social

Loved the lead singer Lily Fontaine’s Donnie Darko tattoo.
English Teacher, 5 piece band, on stage at Madame Lou’s. From Left-to-right: white male bassist playing a white bass in a button-down white shirt, the white male drummer tucked behind his kit in the back left wearing a dark grey button-down shirt, the Indian female lead-singer/guitarist standing center stage with a red guitar hanging on her over a black tee and jeans, the white female cellist in a striped dress hidden towards the back right, and the white male lead guitarist on the front right playing a green and white guitar wearing a light grey ringer tee that has an illustration on the front that reads “Fuzz Circus” in hand-drawn letters. Said Donnie Darko tattoo, on lead singer Lily Fontaine’s right bicep. It’s an illustration of the evil dream bunny head mask from the movie Donnie Darko.

English Teacher, from Leeds, played their first ever proper Seattle show (their KEXP Studio show last year doesn’t count) tonight at Madame Lou’s and it was glorious.

Saw the venerable Dana Margolin and her soon-to-be-broken-up band Porridge Radio at Neumos tonight, 2+ years after catching them in the basement Barboza.

The first pic is from 9/13/22, the other two from tonight (2/5/25).
Dana Margolin with her band Porridge Radio playing in the low-ceilinged Barboza, 9/13/22. She it in a grey tank top, with buzzed haircut, holding a red guitar and singing passionately into the mic. Dana Margolin, with her band Porridge Radio playing outside of the frame, holding a red guitar and singing quietly into a mic on 2/5/25 at Neumos. She’s wearing a black KEXP tee and her hair has grown out to shoulder length. The band Porridge Radio playing closely together on stage at Neumos on 2/5/25. A female keyboardist, lead singer/songwriter Dana Margolin on guitar, the drummer, and bassist are all visible in frame, caught mid-motion.
