Many thanks to Clare who helped Steve this Sunday with the beach clean at Vatersay West. Only 12kg of marine plastic collected which is good as it shows that regualr cleanups are making a big difference to our environment.

Another enjoyable guided walk on Vatersay yesterday afternoon. Lovely views of a golden eagle overhead, eiders in the bay, waders on the beach, flocks of twite feeding on seedheads on the crofts and even a glimpse of the late afternoon sun!

Less spectacular than today's Orcas perhaps, but certainly easier to photograph: we spent some time watching one of Barra's Otters this afternoon as it proved what an effective hunter it was. It typically came up with prey on its 3rd or 4th dive, spent 3 minutes eating it, then repeated.

Spring is in the air! Join the annual spring clean - tidying up litter from your township, near your home and/or around your place of work or school.

Once you have decided on the area you would like to clean give Bùth Bharraigh a call on 01871 817948 and log the area to help avoid duplication.

Wintering Barnacle Geese powering into gale force winds on rainy Barra today. Despite the conditions there are strong signs of spring in recent days: 1st migrant Chiffchaff yesterday, a migrating Short-eared Owl last Thursday and 2 salmon-breasted Scandinavian Rock Pipits on Sunday. #BirdingScotland
Join Steve this Sunday - meet at Vatersay Hall at 10:30am for 1 hour to help clean Vatersay West Beach
