We fully support your desire for pavements free of wheelie bin obstructions. Unfortunately @brighton-hove.gov.uk has never enforced the Highways Act 1980 so thousands of bins block pavements 24/7.

What do we want?
To walk ten metres without bumping into a Lime Bike, stray wheelie bin, or cafe A-board in the middle of the pavement.

When do we want it?
Whenever you’ve got a sec to pop out and move them.
We filmed the departure from the Peace Statue and then replayed it in stop-motion and counted. We counted 404.

It’s crazy that children walking and cycling to school need protecting from adult drivers but it’s the sad reality so it’s good that our Council plans proper enforcement of School Streets.

#NationalWalkingMonth starts tomorrow when we begin celebrating the #MagicOfWalking, but today's news is a harsh reminder of the dangers we can face while trying to enjoy something as simple as walking and wheeling.

"I think about how much I’ve saved on fares, petrol & parking & it feels like a win."

For Annette, 39, cycling brings freedom, fitness and a voice for change. Through #MyRideOurRight, she’s highlighting how small changes can make a big difference.

A quick win would be if the Council did something to get the thousands of recycling wheelie bins and boxes that are left on the pavements 24/7 off the pavements.
Oh, and the scores of redundant parking fee machines.

Wonderful to see all these #KidicalMass rides taking place across the country. Let our kids ride their bikes safely! 🚲🚲🚲

Huge congratulations to @brighton-hove.gov.uk for helping to make the city the most walkable city in the country!
Now you can make it the best in the whole wide world by completing the long-delayed seafront #activetravel scheme.

Join today’s free, huge, family-friendly, city-centre cycle ride. #KidicalMass takes to the streets of Brighton & Hove. Start at 2pm for the feeder rides and all join wheels at 2.45pm at the Peace Statue for the main ride. Whoooooosh!!!!
Get your skates on. #KidicalMass hits Brighton & Hove tomorrow, Sunday.
And many lives were extended by health improvements through cycling. Not so many by driving.

Breaking news! @sportengland.bsky.social's #ActiveLivesSurvey shows that walking for leisure has increased by 6.8%. That's over 3 million adults in England who are walking more! But there’s clearly a need for safer, more pleasant streets, as fewer people are walking for travel. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

When pavements are blocked, pedestrians are forced into the road, which isn't safe.

Living Streets Groups campaign for clear pathways and better places for walking. Could you help them with a gift today? Until 29 April every donation is match-funded! livingstreets.org.uk/greenmatchfund

So the first real policy decision on active travel or road safety by this government is a law targeting cyclists which will do nothing for road safety, briefed to a newspaper which openly hates cycling. Whatever your hopes for active travel from current ministers, perhaps calibrate these downwards.

Yep, some elderly/disabled/deliveries already move by using active travel. When it’s made a more attractive alternative those numbers would grow.
