The houses and units add a nice flavor as to why you fight. But isn't needed to start the fight!
The fluff is there to color your games. The rules to let you play them.

The location rules just feel like the games gona end earlier.
Ammo explosions are solid changes where its only gona effect the outcome in like 40% of situations.
Movement I'm liking the backwards elevation change.
