Most US Jews who vote D would vote for ZM over an R in a local election because they would see him as relatively balanced on I/P even if slightly more tilted towards P rhetorically than they would prefer. Bigger problem is not endorsing for president. He would never win a statewide race right now

Yes, you nailed it. This is very simple. This has even happened many times before in politics. Voters have short memories and don't spend all their time thinking about politics.

I've read that poster many times. He doesn't hate NYC. Or are you talking about Cuomo? My bad. Yes Cuomo is an ass. I would vote for ZM (lived in NYC many yrs) even though I think he's a show horse and so many people are projecting onto him all of their dreams.

No, his reaction seems to me to be about the absurd overrating of the importance of the NYC mayor re any politics outside of NYC, and the overrating and savior wish projection around this particular candidate.

Of course, but it's kind of like saying if we could find a 7-footer with Steph Curry skills. No reason to think youth are different today. Youth are never happy with politics, always believe voters are intellectual and rational and policy-based and waiting to be argued to in just the right way.

One time. The GOP has won more than 50% of the popular vote <one time> since 1992. And yet, every day, you are bombarded with Takes™️ from Ezra Douthglesias about how deeply unpopular The Democrats and their policy platform are, without any reflection on how the same standard applies to the GOP.

The Dems have won the popular vote in presidential elections six times since 1992 by roughly 5.5%(1992), 8.5%,(1996) .5%(2000), 7.3%(2008), 4%(2012), 2%(2016),and 4.5%(2020).
In that period the GOP presidential candidate has won the popular vote twice: 2.5%(2004) and 1.5%(2024).

Douthat writes that 2024, when Harris lost by 1.5% of the popular vote, was "an ideological referendum and progressivism lost." I wonder why he didn't view the 2020 election, when Trump lost by 4.5% of the popular vote, as a far more significant loss for conservatism.

If you know secret to find the right candidates everywhere, not unicorns, you should tell us who they are. Mobilizing youth has been tried for literally decades. Has never been a *consistent* bump in youth turnout because young people are not rooted yet in their lives. It's the only explanation.
