Publishers should be invested in promoting the books they publish.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

Just found out the name for mocking the powers-that-be while doing whimsical protesting:

Tactical frivolity.

There, now you know too.

“It took years for me to appreciate his profound, plainspoken strength.” That sounds like a you problem, because NOBODY thinks Johnny Cash is fucking “uncool.”
joegross.bsky.social
This is what happens when smart people who don’t write about culture for a living write about culture.
bitchinville.bsky.social
Precisely zero people think Johnny Cash was uncool.

It’s NOT?! Also: had no idea there was a strip club in Atwater. Learn something new every day.

One of the best television shows of all time as well as being one of the greatest testimonies to the beauty of making art in collaboration with people, the glory of theater, and the timeless appeal of Shakespeare.

Not for nothing, but Mark Bray’s book is sold out pretty much EVERYWHERE except for his publisher (but their shipping options are kinda bonkers).

It goes without saying, but anybody who CAMPAIGNS for a Nobel Peace Prize is a self-aggrandizing phony and an unworthy chump of the highest order.

What I find so fascinating about Ari Shapiro's AI question to David Simon -- for people who like to write, or write professionally, FIGURING OUT THIS STUFF IS THE FUN PART. It's almost the ONLY fun part.

Vile, Wrecked & Rotten has been announced! I wrote this musical graphic novel with Steve Burns, aka “Steve from Blue’s Clues,” aka one of my best friends, and it’s being illustrated by my dude @jimcampbellart.bsky.social, whose work you might know from an obscure tv show called Over the Garden Wall.
Rob Valois at Penguin Workshop has acquired, at auction, world rights to Vile, Wrecked, & Rotten, a musical middle grade graphic novel about the misadventures of Joanie Rotten, the 11-year-old protégé of two kid-phobic composers who ply their trade in the music-loving metropolis of San Orchestropolis, by Gabe Soria (I.) (The Midnight Arcade); Steve Burns (c.), host of Alive with Steve Burns and star of Blue's Clues; and Jim Campbell (r.), Eisner Award-winning artist of Over the Garden Wall. Publication is set for summer 2027; Charlie Olsen at InkWell Management represented Soria and Campbell, and Chad Kojouri at Range Media Partners represented Burns.

Tower in New Orleans in the 90s might as well have been a clubhouse. It was where EVERYBODY went to hang out.

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.

They should feel bad.
