The bumblebees are slowly going to that forever sleep, except for the queens, of course. This makes me sad every autumn, but I guess going to sleep in an Apricot Lemonade cosmos flower is a good way to go. Thank you, bumbles. #gardenSky #pollinators #gardeningFeed #gardening #bloomscrolling

Two bumblebees collect pollen and bask in the mid October sunlight in an Apricot Lemonade cosmos. The flowers were slow to get going but bloom like mad maniacs.

Yet another bee in an Apricot Lemonade cosmos. The bumbles are slowly dying as they come to the end of their season, with only the queens overwintering in the ground. Thank you bees, and sleep well, o Queens.

What I listen to depends on what I'm doing. When editing or writing, classical like Debussy or Bach or Chopin. When stressed & done work, Queen, Bowie, Muse... or Gordon Lightfoot. Just watered most of my Hoyas and warbled along to this, one of my desert island discs for sure. Now to sleep.

Photo is the cover of Gordon Lightfoot's 1975 double record Gord's Gold. One of my favourite albums of all time, still played regularly, along with other songs from other albums. Summer Side of Life, Looking at the Rain, Talking in your Sleep, Circle of Steel... the soundtrack of my youth, and that of so many other Canadians, and others, too. Just a slipcover. It's my old and much used pale yellow leather recliner, & I found this slipcover online at the evil empire, and love it. (4 pieces but easy to put on. )

Very dry here, too. Several wildfires in the Annapolis Valley where I live, and today we can smell the smoke from the one some 45 km away. Farmers, forests, gardeners all desperate for rain.

The garden is still flourishing in spite of no significant rain for better than 2 months (but a deep well so I can water). Golden tomatoes still producing, asters comforting fading bees, & begonias in bloom. #gardensky #gardens #bloomscrolling #canadagardens #fallflowers #heritagetomatoes

Still producing tomatoes though I've pulled some vines. A soft yellow colander is full of golden and yellow tomatoes, both paste and sandwich types. All delicious.

The bumblebees are slowing down as they come to the end of their lives. Here, three bumbles hang out in the hot pink fall asters, a cross between two varieties. The queen bumbles will overwinter, and the workers and drones will die. Always makes me sad.

Photo shows a basket made of purple lobster wire filled with two massive tuberous begonias, in white and red to make a Canadian planter. No frost here yet so I just water them occasionally and they keep going.

Every year I am besotted by the colours of decorative corn. Fairly certain this is the heritage variety Glass Gem, but my farmer friend wasn't around when I bought it at his roadside stand. Much more interesting than pumpkins! #gardensky #gardening #bloomscrolling #blueskygardens

Nine cobs of decorative "glass" or flint corn, not sure of the cultivar. There is almost every conceivable colour in some of these cobs. They are simply stunning.

Colours of September. Miscanthus Purple Flame Grass has changed colour, the asters are prolific, the ash tree is so drought stressed that it's dropping leaves without changing to much purple in its foliage. #blueskygardens #gardensky #gardening #autumnfoliage #plants

A young man carries two tuxedo cats over his shoulders. He came home from Toronto for six weeks to look after me post-cancer surgery--just as COVID shut down the world. Drove through four provinces with a doctor-signed permit to cross borders. Lululemon, the pudgy beauty on the left, was his kitty who he left with me when he moved to Toronto, and crossed the rainbow bridge in 2023. LongCool Loki is now senior kitty in my house, deaf as a post but wonderful. (I made full recovery). The Victorian Order of Nurses did wound care for weeks, and the cats had to be upstairs while they were here, hence the sacks o' cats picture. Today is also Son of Mine's birthday, and I'm not sure how he got to be this 'old'. I thought *I* was 39 and holding...!
