Large alabaster ushabti of Tirhaqa (688-663 BC). The figure is made of an extremely beautiful alabaster which appears different form that usually found in Egypt, the veining being much less pronounced. The figure is of exactly the same type as 39.2.
Condition: Workmanship excellent. There are several deposits and stains on the back apparently caused by water.

Condition: Intact. Surface worn.

Large reddish-buff pottery jar of approximately bi-conical shape with high cylindrical neck, elaborately decorated on upper half of body and neck in red, black and blue. Band of varied colors runs around the center of body. Upper part of body beautifully decorated with three large ankh symbols, two of which are flanked by Was Sceptres. Between each of these groups is an elaborate bunch of lotus flowers in red, black, and blue. Neck decorated with conventionalized lotus flowers between red, black and blue banding. Workmanship good; very similar specimens from Tell el-Amarna in Berlin. Possibly this specimen is the one referred to by Wilbour in his letter, as coming from Amarna.
Condition: Large chip in rim; also body extensively chipped. Late in 1939 it was observed that the decorated surface of the jar was lifting from the body and beginning to flake off. In February 1940 the object was given several coats of cellulose acetate which seems to have remedied the fault. Surface now strong.

Small bronze cross, undecorated, probably a fragment from a larger compositon.
Condition: Good. Remains of lead solder at base. The cross is probably from the rim of a sacred vessel.

Animal coffin with the remains of two individuals. Bronze "brick" surmounted by two kittens seated next to each other, facing the long way, about halfway back. Facing them, the cat on the right is in a better state of preservation. His face is distinguishable. The cats have long, thin, almost exaggerated necks. Their tails lie on the block, curling around toward the left and ending by the front paws. The front legs are nearly vertical. The cats are resting on their derrieres. Their ears are in an "alert" position. Their bodies are incised with lines simulating fur, their toes with "toe" marks. The "brick" they are seated on is a tiny coffin for the cats.

Condition: Preserved portion in good condition. Faces retain most of the original paint which is now orange-red. Excellent workmanship.
