Great idea. But 1 in 7 Australians at present couldn't possibly afford to install solar panels let alone batteries. Especially those who are renting. Govt incentives in this space simply increase the energy affordability gap between the haves and have nots.
bobcoder.bsky.social
Good idea! That might work.

Sadly a fund-raiser would not work as expected if the couple are made bankrupt. While the bankruptcy is active any money raised would need to be declared and go towards servicing the (alleged) outstanding debt. Bankruptcy usually lasts 3 years before it is discharged.

True. I'm actually older than the Liberal Party, but I have never voted for them.

Credit where credit is due. But not if the discovery serves in part to perpetuate the myth of Carbon Capture as mentioned by the PM in QT today.

We know that the author is thick, but does anyone know the thickness of the book? Asking for a short table leg.😄

Sorry. I missed the context that your post was about Farrel.

Solely because of ego? Or have they decided that they now need to work a bit longer to be able to afford Labor's increased aged care costs taking effect on November 1st?
bobcoder.bsky.social
Nah. Kids should be allowed to enjoy their childhood before having to think about the grubby world of politics.

The "grovelling bastard".

I've consistently voted Labor in elections spanning 63 years since age 18, and as a tax-payer for 53 years. Now as an aged-"care" Support At Home recipient I will no longer vote for either duopoly party.

Spike Milligan summed up Charlie quite well in 1994 I reckon.

Curious that khaki under some lighting conditions looks for all the world like beige.

True. I still have a stereo system in daily use that was bought in 1975. Came with necessary documentation that has allowed me to fix a few minor faults since then. Also using an Asus laptop that is now 15 years old and which has only needed occasional battery, keyboard & fan replacements.

"Support At Home" (aged care) has definitely been made WORSE.
bobcoder.bsky.social
True. They deserve every cent of any pay rise. But don't use the "Royal We" in claiming full credit for them. Some of the new increases result from your govt's stealthy aged-care budget cuts. The Nov 1 SAH co-payments will make aged-care services much less affordable for full pensioners like myself.

Hildebrand forgot to mention "hoon".

Aged Care Financial Hardship details are here: www.myagedcare.gov.au/financial-ha.... Apart from the assets limit you need to prove that you have no more than $161.96 left per fortnight after paying essential expenses. IMO it should have been automatically applied to full pensioners who are renting.

Re means tests. Prior to the Nov 2025 changes, anyone on a full pension who does not own any assets (e.g. renting) could expect to have the cost of their age care fully covered. But after Nov 2025 they have to formally prove financial hardship to avoid paying 17.5% of the cost of some services.

I'm still waiting for my package (after almost a year) so haven't yet signed up with a provider. This explains the co-payments: Clinical care is free, but note the 17.5% charge for 'personal care', e.g. assistance with showering, cleaning, food prep. etc. www.agedcaremadeeasy.com.au/support-at-h...

Yes. But that doesn't tell the full story re co-payments under the new scheme. I have studied all of the relevant aged care documents including those targeting providers (one is 600+ pages). I also subscribe to an online aged care advisor group to keep fully informed.

Grandfarthered means no changes for those on care packages before Nov. 2024. Disagree all you like but that won't change the fact that the new arrangements adversely affect people with the LEAST ability to contribute towards care from their aged pension. (I am one of them).
bobcoder.bsky.social
As I understand it No Worse Off applies only to those who were already on HCP before Nov 2024. They get 'grandfathered'. New applicants will definitely be worse off in having to co-contribute unless they can prove financial hardship. Full pensioners who are renting will certainly struggle.
