It does leave the impression that the staff don't understand what aspect of this is supposed to be sexy

We're ringing in the weekend with a last look at Please Put Them On, Takamine-san, a decidedly mediocre ecchi romp of limited production means. But hey, at least it has this shot implying its heroine's legs are like eight feet long

We're ending the week with a trip to a remote village, where rumors abound and dark shadows lurk, our fears made manifest or simply a trick of the light. Let's return to The Summer Hikaru Died!

And with that I'm current on Hikaru writeups! Definitely gonna munch through the rest soon though, it's a phenomenal show that I'm sure will feature on my end-of-year wrap-up

This week our screenings ranged from the animated excess of Heavy Metal to the entrancing nightmares of Paperhouse, alongside some spiders and hobbits for seasoning. Let's break it all down in the Week in Review!

The omegas just feel so clumsy to me - if I stop to cast them instead of constantly moving, I generally get hit by incidental damage

So I’ve heard; it’s already basically incoherent, since the original’s narrative structure isn’t really replicable anyway

Oh yeah, I’ve unlocked all the weapons and actually beaten Chronos a couple times. The daggers and final weapon are certainly better, but it’s still not clicking - it feels like every boon related to magic is just useless

It’s a shame considering how much I loved the original. Feels like they attempted to shift to a slower style/power set that’s simply incompatible with the fast-paced, inherently imprecise threats of the franchise

Think I’m dropping Hades 2. Every change Supergiant made relative to the original makes for a dramatically worse play experience, and the magic system is a disaster. It just feels like a chore to play

There are certainly worse crimes, but there really should be some sort of law against creating new image file formats

I hope so too! It was delightful to write about this one, I'm eager to continue

I feel like we should really have learned this lesson in our modern era of gun violence. Turns out that most people who would commit atrocities against random strangers don't have a coherent ideology

Of a piece with the OVAs' general issue of wanting to tell "A Fantasy Story" rather than any specific story in particular

I'm currently playing Hades 2, but kinda struggling with how many of its abilities and boons seem basically useless. Definitely plan to check out Expedition 33

Yeah, the path from Mind Game to this seems clear. This first episode was overflowing with fun visual ideas

Today we're checking out a key outstanding production in my anime education, the first series directed by modern master Masaaki Yuasa. Let's explore the action-packed and visually enchanting premiere of Kemonozume!

New adventure tomorrow

It may take the title. There's some great contenders out there - settled classics like Seven Samurai and Lawrence of Arabia, new contenders like Baahubali 2 and Dunkirk. But it's hard to top Gandalf cresting that hill

Today we're digging into the structural fundamentals of weekly storytelling, as well as the various approaches to creating tangible stakes through action, as we explore a fresh episode of the delightful Yaiba: Samurai Legend. Let's get to it!

We're finishing up the week with a trip to the city, as we explore a fresh episode of Kyoto Animation's utterly charming and unbelievably generous CITY the Animation. Let's dig into the perils of stardom, the joys of friendship, and the power of One Weird Face!
