That book sucks actually. I thought it was just a popular travelogue, adored perhaps for its general whimsy, but no, it's badphilosophy. Noah Caldwell-Gervais travel videos are like 100 times better travel writing.

Imo Age of Empires II making a come back is a demonstration on how theme and other non-game mechanics factors can make a difference. Pure mechanical focus is ok after you've gotten people hooked in, but it's not what arouses interest and fun early on.

Anyhow someone should create a multimedia franchise around the squad tactics genre—like XCOM—but with a canon campaign dramatized as TV series. Also, make it real sexy. Get James Cameron on the team, promise him as reward that he'll definitely get to marry the sea afterwards.

Parts of queer geek media industry has undergone a sort of a cozy horrorification where it has disavowed the main feelings—desire and pleasures of the body—underlying the category. It's not like you can't have works with queer sensibilities without being explicit, but it's not a state of innocence.
