Give or take a decade, he's just been shoved against a wall, bottle at his throat and he thinks of that funny old gold rush guide for the second time in his life, but brushes it off.

Turns out that nice old man with the fun hair and kind twinkling eyes he never forgot is his new boyfriend's uncle.

Grad school has my fandom brain perpetually at 2% BUT CONSIDER little Steve who gets to go on his first ever field trip to a gold rush town and he falls in LOVE with the guide. Gangly, long graying curls, quirky and funny, and so smart, and most importantly, someone his parents hate on sight.

So something absolutely wild to me is that since I'm doing research now, it's a hop skip and a jump to writing policy. Like, that's just something one can do, apparently, if you don't vibe with publishing to journals/books/conferences.

In a presentation on how AI can be used to find therapeutic support and benefit clients. No acknowledgment of cognitive bias. Lots of purple prose to fill that lack of acknowledgement, and how clearly the presenter has a biased positive experience based on their own hopeful input and knowledge base.

Just imagine spending all your time and energy and money and networking on making a computer talk more human instead of fighting for better policy and more nonprofit crisis support for those middle of the night crises.

AI is useful for resource gathering, supporting development and research when it is trained to provide resources. It can be helpful for brainstorming, etc. But when you are feeling suicidal, you should never turn to a computer program, no matter its "mindful, relational, boho" marketing for a crisis

idk man focus your education and resources on creating better and more plentiful human crisis response call and text hotlines and teams instead of a robot that regurgitates what you already inherently believe (ie I am bad vs I am good). If you need a therapist at 2am, use a crisis support hotline.
