We've made it to the last quarter of the year! Today I'm sharing my top five most anticipated books for each month of the quarter: October, November and December. Of course, I hope to read other books as well, but these are the ones I'm focusing on. December is typically light on new book releases, and I currently only have three December ARCs.

The nitty-gritty: Louisa Morgan tackles the tale of King Arthur in this magical, imaginative, character focused retelling, perfect for fantasy fans looking for less plot-heavy stories. Arthurian retellings aren’t really my thing, but Louisa Morgan is my thing, so of course I was excited to read The Faerie Morgana. And because she's a pro, Morgan pulled off a rich, magical tale that grabbed me despite the subject matter.

It was both a frustrating month (technically speaking) and a very good reading month, so I really can't complain! The nitty-gritty: A killer is on the loose in a retirement community in Philip Fracassi's latest, a "slasher light" serial killer story with unexpected heart and humor. Who would think that a serial killer story set in a retirement home would work, but Philip Fracassi has proved the universe wrong and written a tense, horrifying (at times) tale with a slew of wonderfully developed characters and lots of thoughtful themes about aging, life and death.

The nitty-gritty: Sex, drugs and rock and roll collide in Delilah S. Dawson's latest, a tense horror story with a fantastic twist. Music horror is one of my favorite sub genres, and I’m so glad I had the chance to read House of Idyll. This short, fast-paced horror story takes the idea of “Be careful what you wish for” and cranks it up to eleven.

The nitty-gritty: A. Rushby explores body horror, sexism and revenge in this creepy Gothic story. Slashed Beauties has the most unique idea for a story I’ve ever come across, and I’ve read some unique stories! A. Rushby has built her tale around the real life anatomical Venuses, also referred to as “slashed beauties” in this story, wax figurines of women that were created in the late 1700s as teaching devices for medical students, figurines that were fully dissectible (complete with removable organs) and more practical than human cadavers, which were hard to come by.

The nitty-gritty: A bite-sized story with huge heart, Sunward will satisfy readers who love cozy sci-fi. If you’re in the mood for a sweet, funny space opera with excellent world building, lovable characters and an intriguing mystery, then look no further. Sunward was such a nice surprise, and the fact that’s it’s a novella makes it even more appealing, at least to me, as I struggle to get through my very big TBR!

The nitty-gritty: Secrets and lies come to light as a family grapples with the death of their matriarch and her demon infested house. “Our family scapegoat is gone. Whose fault will everything be now?” I always know what I’m getting with a new Rachel Harrison book, and Play Nice is right in her wheelhouse. Harrison is so good at tackling messy, believable relationships in her stories, and in her latest she focuses on a family who have been through a lot.
