I'm not entirely sure if they meant to, but Radxa have confirmed the existence of the Intel N150-based successor to the X4, the Radxa X5!

No more GPIO area "notch", a @raspberrypi.com RP2350A, and a 64-bit memory bus 🥰

Radxa X5 Release Imminent? - bret.dk
The Radxa X5 hasn't been officially announced yet, but the schematics and component placement maps have quietly appeared in Radxa's download centre. Having

and a big thanks to whoever posted it on Hacker News! I doubt it'll get much traction over there but if you're lurking here, I appreciate you 😍

I'm keeping an eye on the most popular comparisons so far and it's.. Interesting

What started out as a need for automation and a database for my own data turned out to be a standalone website 😅 I've written a little bit about it at bret.dk/introducing-...

After months of testing and tweaking, I'm extremely happy to finally show off sbc.compare to the world! 🥹

80 boards are available now, and more are on the way. List by benchmark, SBC vendor, or SoC vendor/model 📊

Lots still to do, but let me know what you think 🥰

When the moon hits your eye, like a big Lichee Pi, that’s a 4A..

Seeing the test print on my custom build plate from @emberprototypes.bsky.social was a fun surprise this evening 😁

I just need to come up with some bigger prints to actually make use of the pattern now 😅

There are some search quirks, the social sharing images need to be resized properly, I have about 40 more boards worth of data to add, and there are a few hidden features that I need to complete before unleashing, but once I've done those, I'm going to be pretty proud of it :D So many ideas!

For those who saw the new graphs in my Pi 500+ article, the data comes from sbc.compare/49-raspberry... - it's something I've been working on for a while and will continue to work on before doing any kind of official launch, but feedback on the overall idea etc would be nice!

You don't know how relieved I was to learn that I don't need a Hong Kong dollar system 😌

Yup.. Painfully going through and building all of the modules I needed for *things* 😅

I’m such a sucker for pain

Decided to run a free SEO analysis on my site out of pure curiosity. I know I'm not the greatest of wordsmiths, but for a service trying to sell me on how to do things, this feels a little sloppy...
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 30
but then if I write a review specifically, I can do that testing. I now realise my initial wording was a bit misleading, doh 😄 Hopefully it will all make sense soon!
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 30
The problem there is that all of my current testing is automated and I have 3 test stations set up. If I then do this I have to start intervening manually, or run the tests in 2 separate places. I think I’m trying to convince myself I can remove the WiFi testing from my automation
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 29
2nd problem is that some don't come with an antenna, some do. Do I use the same 3rd-party one on everything, causing a mismatch for people using the included ones? Do I test those that come without one with one that could be better than an included one? So much faff, there'll always be something :D
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 29
Well, the AP I have in the office for testing is a UniFi U7 Pro, and I have a set position for benchmarking so it's not really useful for seeing the overall range in real-world situations, just the comparative throughput in a specific setup so I'm a bit torn..
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 29
It’s market research time again!

Do you find WiFi benchmark results useful in SBC reviews even though your setup will be completely different? Or does seeing the data across the boards in identical setups still prove useful?

Dog to grab your attention to a very boring topic 😊
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 26
You may not like it, but this is what peak SBC cooling performance looks like.

(I’m very glad these are going in the office, these Noctua industrialPPC 3000RPM fans rip)
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 21
Do people generally appreciate having the low-end Intel stuff like the N100/N150 thrown in for comparisons with the higher-performing ARM-based stuff (RK3588 kinda stuff, not Ampere) or does it get in the way?

In my view, it’s worth having for those who appreciate the value/ease but what do I know

Wonderful use of $20 of PETG and fittings 🤌
bret.dk @bret.dk · Jun 7
$15 of cheap PETG later, the 10” mini rack is starting to take shape.. Side panels are printing as we speak, and the screws/inserts arrive Monday!

Operation “can I rack mount 70 SBCs” begins soon..
