Black Phone 2 clears the sequel bar through its intense performances and unique visuals. The 80’s vibes are clear and present which adds to the bold choices that are made by the filmmakers. And like the first film it doesn’t forget to scare the hell out of you.
Good Fortune is a comedy that is both funny and sweet, as Ansari shows that you can have both , while delivering something that we can all take something away from , including being reminded how a Reeves like this , can add so much joy to a movie. #goodfortune
Blue Moon is as witty as it is breezy and Linklater delivers a humorous and, at times , a heartbreaking story about Lorenz Hart, that really unleashes Hawke, who gives a real moving, and utterly human performance. #bluemoonmovie
After The Hunt does a lot of twist and turns in ways that make its mysteries , though captivating, will have you searching for answers when it’s all said and done, and while it is mostly entertaining , thanks to its performances and staging , it’s not as great as you would like it to be.
Before every movie poster was just something from Photo Shop they use to be pieces of art .Of all the artist who created so many great posters , few were as great as Drew Struzan, who passed away today. RIP and thank you for making the world a little more beautiful with your art.
The Mastermind really is quietly a fantastic movie as it provides plenty of comedy in its first half , before switching to a great character study, of an ordinary man , living though a crazy time, that works as well as it does because of O’Conner’s performance
Kiss of The Spider Woman pulls out the charms of old school musicals and Old Hollywood that feels like the perfect distraction from the pains of the world , that soars because of its performances, especially that of Tonatiuh, who is quite simply marvelous.
Roofman is a great crowd pleaser , that avoids the cliches that trouble true-crime movies and will both make you laugh and cry, and while you might come for the entertaining story , stay for Tatum’s performance, which might be his best yet. #roofman
Tron:Ares is visually and audibly stellar and helps deliver the best Tron movie yet and while the script and Leto are its weakest parts , the stronger ones keep it going and deliver quite a thrill ride that should seen as big and loud as possible #tronares
Back at Fantastic Fest , I sat down with director/writer Bruno Martín, co-writer Santiago Taboada, stars David Sainz and Mario Mayo and producer Raúl Cerezo and talked about their excellent film Luger, read that interview here . #fantasticfest
Roofman really lets Channing Tatum shine , as it gives him a chance to showcase his dramatic chops , while still being charming and when you add the crazy true story it is based on , you get one entertaining movie, that will have you rooting for the bad guy . #roofman
For me, Swiped lacks any real depth and feels underdeveloped, which is a shame , as the story and its message is a worthy one, and while James is a bright spot , the rest lacks any real insight and in the spirt of its story , a movie you should swipe left on #swiped
Watched 2024’s The Count of Monte Cristo and man are the French killing it with the Dumas adaptations the last few years , and to be honest , American studios should be taking notes on how to make movies like this , as it is pure cinema
The performances is where The Smashing Machine lands it’s punches , and Johnson has never been better , but it is also something unfocused, and that and it losing your interest at time , keeps this from being a true knockout #thesmashingmachine
Anemone definitely has flashes of brilliance, but it also feels like it is stuck in the mud with what it wants to do narratively, and while the performances few raw and powerful, it’s the Daniel Day-Lewis effect that pulls this one slightly above water .
I really wanted to like Play Dirty , but man is it a disappointment. While the writing is still there , Black’s choices in the filmmaking process and casting ( Wahlberg, is just bad) , make enjoying this to damn hard. #playdirty
The Lost Bus is an excellent disaster movie , as Greengrass kills it visually and makes it hard to take your eyes off the screen as not only does he deliver something gripping , but also manages to make you feel like you are right in the middle of it all #thelostbus
Good Luck, Have Fun , Don’t Die, proves one again Sam Rockwell is golden on just about anything, as he drives this crazy bus filled with action , comedy and so get observation about the current state in our love affair with technology, that really is just too much fun . #fantasticfest.
Reflection in a Dead Diamond feels very familiar, but also so different as it’s a stylish and visual treat and reminds you how much cinema is a visual medium and really is a breath of fresh air in the spy genre #FantasticFest
One Battle After Another keeps you completely entranced with its mix of thrills and comedy , that is only enhanced by its tense atmosphere , as PTA holds a mirror or to our current time while feeding both our heart and minds . #FantasticFest
