The Finnish animal welfare law begins by stating that it applies to all animals, and then makes exceptions for lifestock etc. I wonder when we all will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Parasitoids do have an almost sentient aura to them when you follow them in the wild.
Still, regarding experimental work, Insects are so easy to keep in decent conditions, there isn't a big problem of inhumane treatment like there was with primates and rodents in the past (and still at neuralink).

Also scientists kill so few insects compared to industry, traffic and agriculture. Also, a Drosophila in a scientist's vial has a better life than the ones in the biowaste container in your house.

I agree with mark. Nagoya protocol seriously hampers systematic global study and this push towards not killing insects already waters down planned monitoring schemes. Difficult to identify and actual dark taxa make up so much of insect diversity and we have shamefully little abundance data available

I've used sticky traps, which is like crucifixion that subjectively lasts for months. Then again, the parasitoids I caught set the moral code mode to that of eating other species alive from the inside. Now, I'm doing the same with mosquitoes, but don't regard their cognitive abilities very highly.
