Growing food & natives sustainably in a .25 acre zone 7 yard🏡 DIYs because I'm stubborn. Not a tradwife, just have all the same hobbies😏

I need to upgrade from my notebook with scrawled out notes and taped in labels😭😭
My mom grows the most beautiful dahlias. Me-- not so much🤣
Our entire lot is just about .25 acres and we grow to EAT so must maximize space. We decided to convert most of our front yard, which gets great light, into gardens🥰 I recommend incorporating winter squash since it is shelf stable over the winter!

Found this old picture of my Henry while looking for another pic🙃🙃
Gardening chores can catch up on you, I'm feeling that now but thankfully the weeds have slowed down
Mine has just started opening its first few flowers😎

It's #NationalMentalHealthAwarenessMonth. A good time to appreciate #chicory blossoms. A beautiful roadside weed still blooming when summer fades. Kind of magical - it's blossoms close up and fade toward white as the day progresses. #resilient #draw #mentalhealthsupport 9x12" #ink and #watercolor
I'm hitting a native plug sale event tomorrow, so I'll keep an eye out. I have a few spots to fill in!
That's like me and marigolds. I smell them and all the sudden it's 1991
Just looked that one up. I like it! Looks like our state flower, the black eyed Susan❤️❤️
Maypop vines, aka passiflora incarnata! These are cold hardy where I'm at (zone 7) and grow like CRAZY. A little too crazy😎

They are native to North America and produce gorgeous unique flowers and even fruit! Here's how to root cuttings

Been wanting to get better at floral arranging for years, so I started practicing this year! Zinnias and sunflowers are pretty much the only annual flowers I grow. Everything else, perennials. Trying to get more creative using non-flowers too.
Aw just a little bug having dinner I saw on my walk🥰
Interesting about PA! I didnt realize that, thanks for sharing. I'm in MD
Glad I didn't interrupt his dinner then
When I first became a master gardener, I attended a native plants lecture with two takehomes for backyard growers with more limited space--one of which was that goldenrod is one of the biggest bangs for your buck as far as native plants go. Plant goldenrod!

And the best part is that it's cold-hardy in U.S. grow zones down to 3! Unlike its tropical relative with larger, sweeter fruit and fuzzy skin, kiwi berries can be eaten whole🥝 Their exact taste does depend on the variety, but I find them to be a bit more tart

Omg. I stayed on top of pruning mine until about August when it just went nuts
You ladies remind me of all the master gardeners in my group❤️❤️
I feel your pain with my neighbor's English ivy
