Global News laid off 26 journalists in B.C. and Alberta today.

In B.C. the layoffs include virtually all of the online team, along with many others.

The business is increasingly cruel, and the hollowing out of newsrooms providing fair and reliable information continues to suck.

Not our beloved Fraser Street... My heart is broken. I feel so sick reading the horrific details of what people experienced at this evening's attack. This is a violent violation of a special safe place shared by so many, on a day to celebrate Lapu Lapu. Take care of each other.

🐟 some news 🐟

I have said goodbye to the Tyee! It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since my first story, and I've been itching for some change. Reporting for the rising outlet has been the richest of adventures alongside the most talented colleagues. Thanks to all who followed along.

The flag was muted during a reckoning with residential schools. Then it was embraced by the convoy protests. Now, it's everywhere as a symbol of Canadian sovereignty.

A vexillologist, an Indigenous artist and a scholar of the right on this recent whiplash of meanings.

Nathaniel likes the Broadway Plan. He's a nurse who moved to the area to be near VGH, where he works. He knew his building would be demolished, but that he'd have the "strongest renter protections in Canada."

But then he found out he didn't qualify. In @thetyee.ca.

Abbotsford is home to the oldest gurdwara in the western hemisphere, built with wood men carried on their backs from a mill where they worked. Within that family of lumber barons were two supporters of the KKK.

Here's local historians and the family on that legacy.

Six progressive parties "blew up" the ballot last Vancouver election with too many candidates.

This byelection, three parties (the Greens, OneCity, COPE) have agreed to limit themselves to one candidate each to prevent a split. Two seats are up for grabs.

Why Three Parties Cut a Deal Before Vancouver’s Byelection | The Tyee
With two seats open, each will run just one candidate, an imperfect ‘formula’ to avoid progressive vote splitting.
