Because there is no bipartisan consensus over Israel in the US. One party can only drive the conversation so far. And the GOP is clearly all-in with Israel.

If you think, for example, the GOP in Congress would sign-off on a sanctions regime against Israel then you don't understand US politics.

Trump took office with a Israel-Hamas ceasefire in place, then announced a vision for Gaza as a US-owned resort, with most Palestinians living there gone. Israel restarted military ops in March and imposed famine. Thousands of dead Palestinians later, the Trump admin helped broker another ceasefire.

If the ceasefire holds, the administration deserves much credit. But the fixation on Trump getting a prize distracts from things that actually matter.

My daughter read at least 4 novels in her AP lit class. The Great Gatsby, Beloved, Pride and Prejudice, and Hamlet if I recall (OK one of those is a play). And they had a 5th to read on their own from a suite of options. I think she picked Brave New World.

This was 2023-2024 school year.
