So glad I was able to join and see this incredible panel! Thank you so much for organizing, @cambbikesafety.bsky.social, and for helping relay this critical information to the cycling community. Let's ensure we have the vital knowledge and infrastructure to make cycling safe for everyone! 🙏🙏

Finally, a HUGE thank you to our panelists, all audience members, and the great team at Portico for making the event possible. If you want to learn more, we’re hosting an event Thursday evening at the Harvard Square Patagonia to discuss how to talk to your family and friends about bike safety!
cambbikesafety.bsky.social
We’re also very grateful that two of our endorsed City Council “Bike Champions,” @danabullister.bsky.social and Ned Melanson, plus an aide from the office of MA Senate President Pro Tempore and tireless safe streets advocate Will Brownsberger, attended the event.

Thank you to @somerbikesafety.bsky.social for tabling alongside us and ensuring that Somerville residents attending also received critical local bike safety information.

Josh’s top two bike safety tips, gleaned from working on hundreds of bike crash cases: 1) If a car is involved, write down its license plate and 2) Ask witnesses for their contact information.
cambbikesafety.bsky.social
Complemented by lively audience participation, the quartet discussed best practices for safely biking in the Boston and Cambridge areas; their experiences living through, witnessing, and litigating bike crashes; and what to do if you’re in—or witness—a bike crash.
cambbikesafety.bsky.social
The event featured 4 bike safety experts: Josh Zisson, an attorney who specializes in bike safety and bike law; Vivian Ortiz, the People’s Bike Mayor of Boston; Amanda Leifer, a CBS volunteer; and Rob Vandenabeele, a sustainability consultant (@ecofriendlybeer.bsky.social).

On Tuesday, we hosted an expert panel and social at Portico Brewing about “What To Do In Case You Are In a Crash.”

School Committee candidate Eugenia Schraa Huh attended the October 3 bike bus alongside Burhan! This year, for the first time, CBS sent a School Committee candidate questionnaire.

CBS' "Bike Champions" not only pledged to complete Cambridge's network of separated bike lanes on schedule by November 2026; they also gave the strongest responses to other transportation-related topics in our questionnaire, and, if incumbents, had a perfect voting record on bike safety.

"Bike Champions" Councillor Burhan Azeem (@burhanazeem.bsky.social) and candidate
Ned Melanson each recently joined the Peabody/Rindge Avenue Upper School Friday morning bike bus!

CBS is hosting a "How to Talk to Your Friends and Neighbors About Bike Safety" event at the Harvard Square Patagonia on 10/16 from 7:30-9 PM. We will also distribute bike lights! Sign up: actionnetwork.org/events/how-t...

Join CBS for a bike safety event on Tuesday, October
7, at 6:30 PM at Portico Brewery, just over the line in
Somerville in Boynton Yards. This short course will
cover the necessary steps you need to take if you are
ever in a crash so you are better prepared.

While the City Council sets transportation policy, the School Committee shapes daily school operations and can champion safety at arrival and dismissal, support School Streets, encourage bike buses, expand bike safety education, and ensure secure bike parking.
cambbikesafety.bsky.social
We are not making School Committee endorsements; sharing these responses is intended to inform the public and highlight where candidates stand on keeping students who walk and bike safe.
cambbikesafety.bsky.social
This year, for the first time, CBS sent a School Committee candidate questionnaire. We’re publishing all responses so voters can easily review each candidate’s positions on school-related biking and safe-routes issues: www.cambridgebikesafety.org/2025/09/26/2...

Happy October, Cambridge! Early voting begins in 24 days...

There will be plenty of back and forth between
panelists and audience members. Portico sells food,
so come out for some good eats, tasty libations, a
lively discussion on bike safety, and the chance to
hang out with fellow bike advocates.
