I know we're told to start the story 'in media res' - but quite often I begin with 'So-and-so woke up, got out of bed, went to the bathroom...'
It's quite hard to just remind yourself none of that matters. Start the story where things change.

Who owns the rights to them?
As far as I'm aware copyright is still copyright even if it's not registered. You assert the rights to your work when you publish. Make sure your copyright statement says you refuse to permit AI, scraping or pirating. It's all you can do apart from joining a joint action
