Once I saw a paper on condom use among bear-bear* couples that was indexed under the Animal Studies heading in PSYCinfo. Always test your filters, #MedLibs friends

*It was for a review on a gender & sexuality topic, so yeah. That kind of bear.

Just sent an e-mail to Embase Support Centre about a very strangely indexed paper... I'm used to funny 'mistakes', but this definitely gets the cake. Any other #medlibs ever seen something like this before?
Screenshot of Embase.com results. It shows a paper titled 'Long-term effects of previous experience determine nutrient discrimination abilities in birds'. Some of the listed index terms are 'adolescent pregnancy', 'induced abortion', 'sexual education', 'sexually transmitted disease'.

I was so offended by this video the NC State Health Plan sent us that I called Treasurer Briner. Duke Health: nonprofit health system whose workers provide lifesaving care. Aetna: corporate overhead that unfairly denies claims to enrich its investors. Obviously siding w/Duke

I'm disappointed to see that the new tool requires sign up - I generally recommended the SR Accelerator tool (or really Polyglot and occasionally others) to grad students doing mini versions of SRs, who don't need project management or the full linear suite of tools.

Seems like they're trying to capture citations and other bibliometric data - it's not clear to me that the actual libguide text is captured, maybe just the link data?

Just learned that OpenAlex is indexing libguides, which is a fun way to discover just how badly you've done at updating your libguide metadata 😬

Having a front row seat for @profsorelle.bsky.social's journey from student to tenured professor has been inspirational and I am so incredibly proud to be her partner. And while I wish *gestures around* were going better, I'm determined to celebrate this hard-won and well-deserved accomplishment!

Orientation hits different this year, but I get to keep meeting new people who are dedicated to tackling public health challenges and telling them how I can help. I'm holding onto that encouraging thought with both hands.

Being optimistic in these times is a challenge, but if you are a #librarian working in #healthsciences or #medlibs and want to either volunteer to be a promotion letter writer OR find librarians to do this for you, please take a look at this project: osf.io/e7mb2/

Please share widely :)
Academic Health Sciences and Medical Librarian Volunteer Letter Writers List
This project aims to compile a list of volunteers to write promotion or evaluative letters for other librarians. We attempt to gather the most pertinent information about the volunteers' rank, status,...

Is dark academia still a thing? I feel like we should be encouraging that. “Do you think they were using ChatGPT in The Secret History? They sure as hell were not.”

I'm co-presenting a poster: “Census of Public Health Librarianship within the United States” on Thursday May 1, 4:30-5:15pm. Stop by and say hi!

For anyone attending #MLAnet25 who's also antsy about scheduling, I just downloaded the conference app PheedLoop Go! and it seems complete. I was able to log in with the email I registered with and it shows me the full schedule.

Also, tell me about your presentations/posters!
