It’s day 29 of the shutdown and SNAP is set to stop next week. Food banks are already being overwhelmed. If you can, please donate to your local food bank 🍽️

💵Because food banks can purchase food at a discount, donating money goes further than donating food

📋If donating food, check for a wish list

ROMANCING THE RAKE is a historical romance anthology available on KU.

We are all white AF, and none of us are recent immigrants. Aunt and uncle are normal terms of respect for people around your parents' age. I had "aunts" and "uncles" I wasn't related to growing up, too.
My kids call my BFF from college and her husband "aunt" and "uncle." We are not blood relations. Auntie is a general term to a LOT of people.

If you have it please donate cash to the food banks. $10 in their hands will feed more people than the $10 worth of canned goods you can buy for retail prices. Also check on your elders. Many of them will not admit they rely on these programs so grocery gift cards or a surprise bag of staples

Thanks for all your help! We're getting close to our goal, but we still need more $$ before the end of the month. This isn't like those annoying campaign texts you get. We have a concrete goal and a specific deadline. So if you can help, please contribute.
The VA state legislature is up for election this November, and we're working with @statesprojectus.bsky.social
to tell the GOP that we won't stand for tyranny.

I'm so disappointed in them. The company doesn't have a cash crunch. It's flush. We always check before we make a donation to the local food bank, because why not get it matched - only to find they had quietly canceled the program.
If regular historical readers wanted magic, they'd pick up a romantasy. They really don't, so you alienate the core readership while not quite hitting for the core romantasy readership, either.

See also the 3rd vs. 1st person narrative debate. Historical readers generally don't want 1st.
Most of the examples I can point to, which I'm not going to do because I like having friends, have been flops. I'm glad it worked for Eva, but one data point doesn't make a trend.
Possibly - I don't read or write YA, can't really comment on that genre. Very different audience.
It's much more new adult adjacent, with fancy dresses! All that angsty energy largely evaporated from the contemporary space and found a home in romantasy, circa 2022.
Honestly, I'm not seeing many crossovers that are working in this market. Just write a romantasy and leave the historical out of it, is my approach.
My area has been hammered by the DOGE cuts and the shutdown, so naturally, my husband's employer ended its donation matching program earlier this month... 🫠
Yep. Indie publishing is almost the only option left for historical authors, with rare exceptions. I'm not agented but I hear from historical authors right now that trad houses simply aren't acquiring it.
I joined a writer's group that hosts a NaNoWriMo every single month. You set your own goal. There's a spreadsheet. You track your word count and see everyone else's. There are usually two groups to play off one another, for friendly competition. It's lovely.

Not surprisingly, most of the U.S. tariffs are being paid by American companies and consumers — NOT by foreign exporters.
*unless we make him, obviously. I don't mean to sound defeatist. I mean that's his intention, and it is going to take everything we have to stop this from happening.
