This account is mostly Map and GIS celebration (some gripes)+ elevation of others' mappy work. It will detour into carnivorous plants, nudibranchs, birds, corny puns, stands against fascism and authoritarianism, sharing natural wonder, rowboat and bike adventures, childcare and adult dementia care.

Today, The Word for World: The Maps of Ursula K. Le Guin opens at AA Gallery in London! Curated by Sarah Shin and Harriet Jennings, the exhibition presents a selection of Ursula's maps, including some that have never been exhibited before.
A photo of the entrance to The Word for World exhibition, with two banners hanging vertically down outside the doorway to a brick building with white-paned windows. A row of bicycles are parked in front. The banners are purple and white and say the name of the exhibition and Ursula K. Le Guin's name. A cord-wrapped rock rests on a vivid blue background next to a map of and program for The Word for World exhibition. A stack of copies of The Word for World book, which shows the title in vivid blue against a black cloth cover.

I have never seen Collin See-Paynton's work before today.
While so much of my media is being flooded with AI slop or blatant copyright abuse, this work is so refreshingly welcome and inspiring. Joyously catching up on a fantastic body of work.

I can't doodle worth a darn but I can cross stitch! I finished this earlier this year. Pattern from London's Natural History Museum: www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/cro...
Cross stitch of a Giant Squid. Squid is in shades of orange. The two longest tentacles are held up in a semicircle while the rest dangle below. There is some white detailing on the ends of the longest tentacles and top of the fins. Stitched on navy blue Aida fabric.

"This exists in San Francisco?"

That will be your mantra on the city's new perimeter trail — a path filled with good dogs, great sandwiches, art everywhere, and a reassuring number of public restrooms.

I covered it all by bike. Here are the highlights:

I agree, the FOMO was massive.
I got like 15 video snippets of different breaches because they were in line of sight of the cell tower, all during a time I was staring at results of queries in MS SSM.
