Italian is much easier for me to understand because I've spent more time on Romance rather than Germanic...
But dang it give me back my well defined crosswalks and immaculate roads in Amsterdam.

Having worked in Gimp as my first encounter with digital art and then photoshop-illustrator-krita-clipstudio in that order...

Went to the thrift shop where they had a wall of plant pots and walked away with a rainbow worth of pots to grow my habanero, jalapeno, cilantro, and tomatillo in.
I ended up buying a bonsai orange tree too...

Genuine kind people exist in spades in the US.

Quit calling it "fake nice" - you've got vocabulary, you invented it.

Etiquette is a thing, but what you keep encountering is Passive Aggression. And that specifically is a defense mechanism from living in a 3rd world country thinking it's a 1st.

Honey, those folk are salt poor, gonna give you the best cheese casserole you've ever encountered, pull out Pops clothes from 30 years ago that just about fit you, and figure out a spare bed in 30 minutes. Back off.

There's a farmer's market on Fridays within biking distance of me I was unaware of.
There was a massive vendor booth for mushrooms...
And he had Lion's Mane.
I've never seen it for sale before when I was in the states.
It worked up great as a lion's mane scampi. 10/10 would recommend.

Can I just say how awesome and accessible it is to be able to take a picture of a poem and translate it on my phone? I don't have to carry a dictionary and grammar book. It's all right here.
I like digital minimalism, but in this moment I am grateful to the programmers who made learning Dutch easier

That was a biiiig factor in going this route, because I could have incremental reading goals like that. It feels more exciting when I pull a book off the shelf, open it, and realize I can almost read it compared to just a couple weeks ago 😁

Not sure if I'm going about language learning for Dutch the right way, but starting out with picture books designed for 2-5 year old reading feels gentler on my brain. Guess if it works?

I had to go with an ablation for insurance before they would let me get a hysto and between Endo pain and ablation cramps - Endo is worse, so if you're used to high pain, you probably will be more annoyed at the pain rather than fetal ball. Good luck.

Seriously, if you've got kids and you genuinely love them, be the safety net you wish your guardians would have been. Doesn't matter if you 'turned out fine' - heal your inner child by being the adult your younger self needed.

I was 32 when my mom looked at me so innocently baffled at me saying academics was my personality and she said 'you know you would have been fine making Bs and Cs"
No. No I didn't. That was never specified as an option. Now I have an anxiety disorder around academics.

Give me code words to get out of social situations while preserving what little rep I had.
Give me safe words if I do something insanely stupid and need to have them come get me without going ballistic.

There's a fantastic water color in Het Jaar Rond for October that I fully plan on doing a study of tomorrow to understand color layering.
There's a lane up near station Zuid I really want to paint this weekend because of the fall foliage like this book.

Was able to pick up Silence by Thich Nhat Hanh for $2 on Kobo today.

I've read Heart of the Buddha and How to Sit by him and rather liked his style.

The Art of Simple Living by Shunmyo Masuno and Ichigo Ichie by Hector Garcia have also been excellent reads.

Fell down a rabbit hole trying to find what brown sugar bags look like in the Netherlands so I can make chocolate chip cookies and instead found an online NL shop that carries poblano and ancho...
