Yeah, I was thinking that if they investigated, it might make Alternate Josh look like he was making this up, and that would only make things worse!

So far my plan is for him to find a door that opens to an alternate universe, but it is never explained. Still considering that, though 🤔

October 12th – hope

Today we are in Anthropomorphic, my urban fantasy.

Ray is trying to arrest a suspect. It could be going better.

I noticed the smell first, a heavy, pungent, petroleum stench; then I saw the bottle at her feet. Lighter fluid. From how intense the smell was, she had dumped the entire bottle into the carpet while I was distracted. This fire bug had come prepared to do more than burn a little skin this time. She had been planning to immolate her next victim. She might still manage it.
I reached for my gun, but the lighter was already falling from her hand. I covered my face with my arm and turned away as flames erupted from the carpet. I looked back up to see her running for the door. The flames weren’t that bad, yet. I could go after her, but if I did, the unconscious bus boy would likely burn. Shit.
I grabbed the boy under the armpits and dragged him towards the kitchen. The room froze as I pushed through the door. I passed the unconscious employee to the man nearest me. “There is a fire in the hall. Take him outside and call 9-1-1. I’m going to go and get…”
I left the thought unfinished as I sprinted from the room. They were all too stunned to ask questions at the moment, but that would change if I stuck around. Besides, if I had any hope of catching up to Carla, I had no time to waste.

Ya! I was toying with the idea that in the beginning he doesn't think he would need any preparation to replace AR Josh since they are the same, so he just tries it and immediately learns it was a mistake. She would be suspicious, and like you say more ready to believe her husband eventually!

Haha, yes! For #PlotTober I have been brainstorming something new. It is the story of a man, disappointed in his life, who finds an alternate reality where his doppelganger leads the perfect life, so he plots to kill and replace him.

Still early stages, but I think it is starting to come together!

Like he tries to pretend that he is AR Josh early on, to just her? And he is tempted to approach her because he still remembers her as the girl he once loved?

In that encounter, he learns he doesn't know enough about AR Josh to impersonate him, and begins stalking him after that?

That is a good idea! His wife and child would be good antagonists, also. I wonder if Josh might try to approach his wife, as a trial run to replace AR Josh, and this might make her suspicious?

who suspects that something strange really is going on and is hunting for the culprit.

With his double alerted and the PI beginning to close in on him, Josh is in very real danger of being caught before he can execute his plan (and his doppelganger). But he refuses to back down now.

and suspicious, Alternate Josh withdraws and takes more steps to protect himself.

This really hinders Josh's attempts to study him and prepare for his murder, throwing roadblocks into his path.

On top of this, though the police have dismissed Alternate Josh, he's hired a private investigator 🧵

Feeling increasingly hunted and worried for his family, Alternate Josh calls the police.

They have forensic testing done on evidence from one of the break-ins, but only his own DNA and fingerprints are found. The police write him off as a liar.

At first Alternate Josh doesn't realized that anything is even wrong, and isn't actively trying to obstruct Josh. But, eventually he will begin to pick up on the fact that someone is stalking him.

He finds signs that someone is going through his trash, his car, has broken into his home, etc. 🧵

#PlotTober Day 12: Antagonists

Growing into the person he could potentially be, in this case, means that Josh successfully takes over Alternate Josh's life.

So, I suppose in this case, the unwitting antagonist would be Alternate Josh, simply by the fact that he would prefer not to be murdered. 🧵
