This means the origins of Vash and Knives are heavily tied to human consumption/use. They were supposed to be donor hearts and skin grafts.

+Independant plants are not part of any plant reproductive cycle but originate from scrapped endeavors into seeing if plants could generate human limbs and organs for donation. If you DNA tested Vash and Knives, you'd pull up a match from the genetic donor they used for this.

+ NML is home to mutated genetic bottleneck feral dogs. There were dogs and cats brought along on project SEEDS (they weren't just going to generate pets with plants, people had existing pets they wanted to bring with them)

+ Ww's modifications in the EOM were not just injections, but involved invasive surgeries. I think they fucked around with his eyes to give him something like tapetum lucidum, which is why his eyes glitter in the dark in a few panels.

If Vash and Knives were born with dicks they would not be capable of ejaculation. Plants reproduce asexually even though they give birth, so there's no reproductive need/reason for that. Instead of testes, there's teste sized teratoma like masses in the balls,
