And though I feel super nervous to ramble about a character with such personal themes, I like to yap about him and appreciate it deeply that I could 🌹

So, obviously my attachment to him is l o u d and unsubtle - it's also helped me build a connection to others in the past.
Frankly, I don't think I'd be getting married to my fiancé if it wasn't for the kindness and adoration he's showed Jack as a character ᵕ —<—) which is downright cringe

He's helped me write about some of the worst experiences of my life in a way I probably would not have found the words for - or seen for how dangerous they've been.

Having a muse to unpack my struggles through helped me a lot, especially as a kid struggling with communication and bad habits :']

His saliva and breath itself work as instant sedatives, making intimacy difficult.

Anything he drinks often takes on a dark, sparkly appearance - same goes for cigarette smoke he exhales. Dark blue with little golden specks floating about, inhalation making you exhausted

He struggles with trust, romantic relationships, attention seeking from dangerous people and self discovery!

As it turns out, being consistently poisoned by a demon for nearly a decade has had permanent effects on his body, making Jack's saliva have the same effect the tea had on him - drowsiness.

SO, Jack ends up meeting some fellow mentally ill queers™ he lives with and struggled to adapt to non poisoned drinks and foods, becoming a healthy weight, trying to understand his childhood, etc

With the help of his aunt Helena, a woman who skipped town shortly after Jacks father passed, Jack escapes his gruesome homelife & subsequently the demon Satin at the age of 16.

His escape is premature and Jack doesn't have the funds to reach his aunt, who is at the time in the army, just yet.

Gradually poisoning him with tea, Jacks visits become frequent - to chat and have a friend to tell his stories to. He doesn't remember much else, but he knows they're good friends.

The other 90% of his story is unpacking 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 and becoming his own person outside of his hometown

Having escaped just to play and to explore his homes surroundings, he captured the attention of a demon obsessed with collecting human souls - especially those troubled by loss or unordinary upbringings.

Satin invited the boy to his office for tea and biscuits, taking a school counselor-like role.

Jack's mother frequently mistook Jack for somebody he never knew. That, or she ignored him completely - though she felt antsy letting the boy go outside.

Jack took to learning about the world through play and by reading about it in books when he was literate 📖
Eventually, he wanted to go outside

Jack-Hazel was named after his late father, Jack, who died during his mothers pregnancy. It was believed to be a random act of violence, the work of a young demented serial killer.
Though what really happened is much more complex. [Ask me I dare u] His death drove his already unstable mother insane.

A GINORMOUS amount of me and my best friends sonic OCs from the 2010's & more recent human characters all have a massive amount of world building around them - Jack being only a small interconnected character with ties to his direct family, a small friend group, a childhood friend and his gr//mer.

Throughout the years, Jack has had a dozen tweaks to his design, especially before 2020 - which are still sentimental to me!

I've adapted his original design to be how he looked as a child and some of the more effeminate versions are inspirations for some of his crossdressing looks :D
