I calculated 1…Qa5+ and 1…Bb4+. Who has time for more than that in a blitz game? Of course I saw the refutation while waiting for his next move.

If you see a good move, look for a better one. It really only applies to sharp positions in classical games where there’s a good chance of a knockout. Most of the time you should play the good moves.
