Exciting news: I have been appointed director of the Institute for Theology and Peace (ITHF) & the Centre for Ethical Education in the Armed Forces (zebis).

In the coming months, both institutions will merge into a new think tank—linking theology, ethics & security policy in fresh dialogue.

Delighted to receive a physical copy of my latest publication. In this new book on Just War Theory and Artificial Intelligence, Bernhard Koch and I argue about the morality of fully autonomous armed drones. We ground our argument in the Catholic tradition.

Fantastic conference on "Just War and Just Peace" organised by the Ludovica University of Public Service and Pázmány Peter Catholic University. A keynote by Card. Michael Czerny SJ as well as thought-provoking discussions. And all of that in stunningly beautiful Budapest.

Very exciting to see the cover of this forthcoming book on Just War Theory and AI. To this volume, Bernhard Koch (Institut für Wehrmedizinische Ethik der Bundeswehr) and I contribute a chapter titled “On the Morality of Fully-Autonomous Armed Drones.” @dsdkings.bsky.social

What are the ethical implications of sending weapons to #Ukraine under "jus ad vim"?

Dr @christianbraun612.bsky.social's new article explores the moral challenges of providing lethal aid, focusing on the German debate & principles like the "probability of escalation."

❗Publication❗
Delighted to see “Weapons for Ukraine as force-short-of-war” published in #InternationaAffairs. Concentrating on the German 🇩🇪 debate, I explore the supply of weapons to Ukraine 🇺🇦 through the prism of jus ad vim (the just use of force-short-of-war).

Weapons for Ukraine as force-short-of-war
Using the framing of jus ad vim–the just use of force-short-of-war–this article situates the polarized debate over the ethics of supplying weapons to Ukrai

"What would Britain do, for example, if an attack on the seabed destroyed a gas pipeline, power line or data cable to the UK? Do we sue? Issue a cross press release? Expel a Russian diplomat? Launch a missile strike?"

I am delighted to have contributed a chapter on Pope Francis, in which I provide a balanced assessment of the Pope's attitude towards just war thinking. I do so by reflecting on his remarks on the war against Ukraine that have repeatedly caused controversy.
